Robert Calfee has been a distinguished researcher and author in
the area of reading and reading development for the past 30 years.
He serves as a board member of the Society for Scientific Study
of Reading, as editor for Educational Assessment, and was past editor
of the Journal of Educational Psychology. He has published over
50 articles in juried journals such as Educational Psychologist,
Journal of Reading, Issues in Education, and Assessment
in Education.
Anne E. Cunningham, Ph.D.
Associate Professor at the
University of California, Berkeley
Anne Cunningham is a distinguished university professor and former
classroom teacher. Recently, Dr. Cunningham was selected to be a
review panelist for Reading First. In addition, she serves as a
board member of the Society for Scientific Study of Reading; as
an appointed officer for the American Educational Research Association,
Division C: Learning and Instruction; and on the editorial board
of The Reading Teacher. Anne has served on the California Language
Arts Standards Content Review Committee from 1997-1998, and the
California State Commission on Teacher Credentialing: Technical
Task Force on Reading Assessment and Teacher Preparation for Reading
Instruction. She has published over 35 major articles in juried
journals such as Developmental Psychology, Journal
of Educational Psychology, Reading and Writing, and
American Educator.
Ruth Nathan, Ph.D.
Visiting Instructor at the
University of California Berkeley Extension
Ruth Nathan is a university professor and classroom teacher. She
has authored many books on writing and literacy including Beginnings
of Writing, Writers Express, Write Away,
Writers in the Classroom and Classroom Strategies That
Work. She has published over 20 major articles in juried journals
such as Reading Research Quarterly, Child Development,
and Language Arts.
Barry Munitz, Ph.D.
Barry Munitz was elected to our board of directors in July 2002.
Since 1998, Dr. Munitz has served as President and Chief Executive
Officer of The J. Paul Getty Trust, which includes the Art Museums,
Research Institute, Conservation Institute, Grant Program, educational
initiatives and a large endowment portfolio. From 1991 to 1998,
Dr. Munitz was Chancellor of the California State University,
the
largest senior university system in the United States, and he is
currently a professor of English at its Los Angeles campus.
He is
a member of the board of trustees of Princeton University, the
board of directors of SLM Corporation, a provider of student
loans more
commonly known as "Sallie Mae," and the board of directors of KB
Home, a leading U.S. and European residential builder. Dr. Munitz
also a member of the executive committee of Southern California's
public television station, a Fellow of the American Academy of
Arts
and Sciences and a member of the visiting committees of Harvard
University's and Princeton University's art museums. In the past,
he was Chairman of the American Council on Education, Chairman
of the California Education Round Table, Academic Vice President
at
the University of Illinois system and Chancellor of the University
of Houston. He also served as Vice Chair of the Commission on
National
Investment in Higher Education. Dr. Munitz earned
a B.A. from Brooklyn College and has an M.A. and Ph.D. from Princeton
University. Upon the completion of this offering, Dr. Munitz will
be the Chairman of our Compensation Committee and a member of our
Audit Committee.
Scott G. Paris, Ph.D.
Dr. Paris is a professor in the School of Education and the Chair
for the Graduate Program of the Department of Psychology at the
University of Michigan, and he is the Site Coordinator of the Center
for the Improvement of Early Reading Achievement. He is currently
on the board of directors of the National Reading Conference and
the editorial boards for Educational Psychologist and Reading Research
Quarterly, and has previously served on the editorial boards of
numerous journals, including the Journal of Educational Psychology,
Child Development and the Journal of Cognitive Education. Dr. Paris
is a frequent contributor to scholarly publications in the field
of education and developmental psychology. He has had published
10 books and over 70 articles in journals such as Developmental
Psychology, Child Development, International Journal of Disability,
Development and Education and Educational Psychologist.
P. David Pearson, Ph.D.
Dr. Pearson is the Dean of the Graduate School of Education at the
University of California, Berkeley and was previously the John A.
Hannah Distinguished Professor of Education in the College of Education
and the Co-Director of the Center for the Improvement of Early Reading
Achievement at Michigan State University, and was Dean of the College
of Education and the Co-Director of the Center for the Study of Reading
at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He has been the President
of the National Reading Conference and the National Conference on
Research in English and has served on the board of directors of the
American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. Dr. Pearson
currently serves on the editorial advisory boards of Cognition and
Instruction, Educational Assessment, Reading Research Quarterly, Research
in the Teaching of English and Reading On-Line. He is a frequent speaker
and publisher in the field of reading and education. Dr. Pearson has
had published 12 books and over 100 articles in journals such as Reading
Research Quarterly, The Journal of Literacy Research, Language Arts
and The Reading Teacher. |
