LeapFrog SchoolHouse Approach to Research

Scientifically Based Research

The following triangle details how research in educational publishing should be conducted. From a research basis (the empirical evidence and theoretical work about how children learn, (#1 in triangle) a product is developed (#2 in triangle). After the product is developed, it is pilot tested to see that the program does what it claims (this is validity research, #3). Then general research questions are developed, to guide efficacy research (are there demonstrable gains achieved through the intervention? #4). The What Works Clearinghouse (WWC, http://w-w-c.org/) has set out the criteria for gold standard research (#5), a systematic, rigorous and open research design is developed (#6), and efficacy research can begin (#7). Expert panels should review the research questions, research design, efficacy research (including implementation) and its results (#8). LeapFrog SchoolHouse follows this model for its ongoing research. We are committed to devoting resources to conducting the highest quality efficacy research.

LeapFrog SchoolHouse Approach to Scientifically Based Research
LeapFrog SchoolHouse is conducting both validity research (#3 in triangle diagram, does the product do what it should do?) and efficacy research (#7 in triangle diagram, does the product demonstrate measurable gains in academic achievement?)
