Effectiveness Studies

LeapFrog SchoolHouse is committed to continuous research and evaluation.

LeapFrog SchoolHouse has conducted extensive research on the efficacy of The Literacy Center. In these studies, statistically significant improvements in performance on tests of early literacy skills were observed for children who used the multisensory approach to learning with the LeapFrog SchoolHouse program. These improvements were above and beyond those of children in the control groups who used print based materials only.

Efficacy Research
Efficacy Studies examine the effects of LeapFrog SchoolHouse educational programs on student performance in the classroom. Efficacy studies usually take place across an academic year, and compare the performance of students in a classroom with LeapFrog SchoolHouse to the performance of students in classrooms without LeapFrog SchoolHouse Some of the studies we are currently conducting (n's ~ 1,000 children, in 40-50 classrooms) are federally funded projects on the national level, and involve third-party independent evaluators. We are also currently involved in large-scale, longitudinal and single year studies in urban settings across the U.S. These studies typically combine child-level assessments with teacher interviews, observations and fidelity checklists to assess implementation of the program.

Literacy Center Research Conclusion
Varied populations of students using the LeapFrog SchoolHouse Literacy Center, for varied lengths of intervention, demonstrate measurable gains in key early literacy skills. The Literacy Center program includes research-based, multi-sensory instructions and practice with essential pre-reading skills. As we begin to understand the causes of children's increasing divergence in reading achievement, we observe wide consensus among experts that reading is the cornerstone for both academic and life success. The implications of these LeapFrog SchoolHouse efficacy study results are critical because early literacy skills are highly predictive of future reading success.
